Frame Conservation & Restoration Portfolio

Every frame carries its own history — a record of craftsmanship, age, and care. At Stegmaier Masterworks, each treatment is approached with respect for that story, using traditional water-gilding and oil-gilding methods and conservation-based practices to preserve both structure and surface. From delicate touch-ups to full restorations, no project is too small to merit careful attention and artistry.

All work is done according to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works.Treatments will be documented with photographs of the object before, during, and after, along with written reports describing the steps undertaken and the materials used. Materials will be chosen based on stability, reversibility, and appropriate appearance.

It's all in the preparation...

Occasionally, treatments require preparatory drawings to complete missing pieces. These drawings serve as both documentary records of the frame and as roadmaps to follow during the treatments.

No job too small...

Whether it’s an heirloom painting in a gilded frame missing a single leaf petal, or an elaborately carved period frame housing a masterpiece, Stegmaier Masterworks approaches every restoration with the same dedication to craftsmanship and care.
